about

Tabhair Dom Do Lámh is the brand new single by Irish/English singer and multi-instrumentalist Lewis Barfoot, due October 2021. The single is Lewis’ first release since her debut album Glenaphuca was launched to rapturous acclaim in March 2021. In support of the album and single Lewis is going on the road in November and December, performing an exclusive run of dates in the UK and Ireland, see dates list overleaf.

Tabhair Dom Do Lámh is based on a traditional air originally written by the Derry harpist Ruaidri Dáll Ó Catháin around 1603. The lyrics were composed by Lewis when she was commissioned by Korean visual artist Narae Kim to write a piece for her to sing for Narae’s wedding. Lewis’s gorgeous arrangement contains two lines of Korean as well as the words in Irish which mean "give me a hand". The stark beauty and simplicity of Tabhair Dom Do Lámh is testament to Lewis’ talent as a uniquely gifted storyteller who captivates listeners with her evocative lyrics and gorgeous, otherworldly voice. She exists in a musical space of her own but is often favourably compared to the likes of Kate Rusby, Sandy Denny, Maíre Brennan and Julie Fowlis.

For the recording of Tabhair Dom Do Lámh Lewis worked with acclaimed Scottish musician Elisabeth Flett performing on fiddle and whistle, the duo recorded together at Lightship 95 in London with engineer Giles Barrett. Lewis and Elisabeth will be touring together alongside Jarlath Mulholland on clarinet in November and December across Ireland and the UK, see dates list overleaf. Having cut her teeth on the London folk circuit, appearing regularly for institutions such as Nest Collective, Lewis has recently moved back to her maternal home of Ireland, and is happily settled in Cork.

lyrics

Please give me your hand, is tabhair dom do lámh
Please give me your hand, 평생 함께 해줄래
Two families meet across wild seas
Is tabhair dom do lámh

Please give me your hand and journey with me
May bygones dissolve, our struggles be free
May our gifts to the world be of service to all
As we rise together to make peace our norm
May deep love spread like wildfire, delight chase the dawn

As seasons change, gaining strength from the sun
I will stand by your side, as we journey along
Our hearts intertwined we embrace every strife
To flow arm in arm 내 삶의 선물

Please give me your hand, is tabhair dom do lámh
Please give me your hand, 평생 함께 해줄래
Rejoice in our love an invitation to all
Is tabhair dom do lámh

Please give me your hand in a love to last
With blessings from all those present and past
Our bright bonds of love, crying out from above
First and foremost, I love you and respect your kin
All sisters, all brothers of the world welcome in

As seasons change, gaining strength from the sun
I will stand by your side, as we journey along
Our hearts intertwined we embrace every strife
To flow arm in arm with the gift we call life
